As the newly appointed UC Chairman, I would like to thank the MHC for giving me the mandate, trust and support to further improve the umpiring standards of our umpires and to take the umpires and umpire managers to a few notches higher at the International level. I have been in the Malaysian Hockey scene for more than 25 years and understand the issues faced. I vow to address these issues for the betterment of all umpires.
Our main Mission and Vision for the UC is to have our umpires officiating at the Olympics and World Cup. It is a privilege to announce that we have our very own umpires that will be officiating at the forthcoming FIH Pro League, Eric Koh and Anbananthan. We would like to wish them all the very best and hope that they will make us proud. We are also proud to inform that the UC will very soon embark on its Junior Development Program set to be launched by the mid of this year. All necessary resources are being gathered to make this program a reality. I call all to work closely and support our cause to create a larger pool of umpires for the future.
I assure you that the new UC will be professional and transparent in its approach and will be ever willing to assist all umpires for their career path in umpiring. Umpires will be given equal opportunity to move up the ladder based on merits and we will look into all their needs and requirements to make this happen. As we all know, most of the domestic and international tournaments had been postponed due to the pandemic, so 2021 will be a very hectic year for our umpires and umpire managers. FIH and AHF will have its hand full to complete all those qualifying tournaments which were postponed this year and rescheduled for 2021.
Before I pen off, let us all work together, support each other to improve the standard of umpiring. I also urge the umpires to be more professional in their approach to achieve their goals as I believe that it’s an honourable career path which will enable you to see the world!
